Foresters Suffer First Loss of the Season

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by visiting Benedictine University on Wednesday, despite sophomore forward John Cappuccitti scoring for the fifth consecutive game. It was the first loss of the season for the Foresters, who are now 4-1-0.

Cappucitti took a pass from senior forward Dylan Hartman and scored to pull the home team to within a goal with 11:50 remaining in the second half. The Foresters had also closed to within one at 2-1 when junior midfielder Ellis Rutili netted his fourth goal of the season at the 55:14 mark. Rutili was also assisted by Hartman, who is now tied for 13th place in program history with 60 career points on 22 goals and 16 assists.

Benedictine led 2-0 at halftime and regained its two-goal advantage at the 66:52 mark.

The Foresters were out-shot 5-3 in the first half but had a 9-8 advantage in that category over the final 45 minutes.

The victory improved the Eagles' record on the season to 3-3-0.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play this Saturday at Ripon College. The contest will begin at 3:30 p.m.
