Kyle Kraus and Mahir Mameledzija Sweep MWC Performer of the Week Awards

Less than 24 hours after they combined for a game-winning goal, Lake Forest College men's soccer players Mahir Mameledzija and Kyle Kraus were named Midwest Conference Defensive and Offensive Performers of the Week on Monday. They helped lead the Foresters to a pair of victories over the weekend.

Kraus, a junior sweeper, anchored a defense that posted a 3-0 shutout over Monmouth College at home on Saturday and a 2-0 blanking of visiting Illinois College on Sunday. Monmouth players attempted just five shots in the game, including only one on goal. Illinois College had six shots with just two on target.

The home team took the lead on Sunday when Kraus nearly single-handedly moved the ball through the Blueboy defense and into the box before passing to Mameledzija for the goal.

Mameledzija netted three goals on the weekend, including both game-winners. He scored 4:12 into Saturday's game and again with 5:12 to play in the first half. His goal against Illinois College occured with 1:03 remaining before halftime. He tops the Foresters and is tied for the league lead with 16 goals on the year and he raised his team record for career goals to 69.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Mameledzija has now earned the award eight times in the last two seasons and 10 times in his career.
