The Forester men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 in overtime at Carthage College Sunday night. Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Ethan Guenther made a career-high nine saves in the contest.
Guenther had five saves during a scoreless first half, two in the second, and two more in overtime. He did not surrender a goal until the Red Men took the lead at 72:05.
The Foresters tied the score at the 76:52 mark when senior Jordan Hartman assisted classmate Mahir Mameledzija's team-high fifth goal of the season.
Carthage netted the game-winner with 1:38 on the clock in overtime.
The Foresters were outshot 7-0 in the opening period, 8-4 in the second half, and 4-0 in overtime.
Lake Forest is now 2-4-0 on the season and all four losses were by a single score. Carthage raised its record to 6-2-0.
The Foresters will open Midwest Conference play Saturday afternoon at Grinnell College and will play again at Cornell College on Sunday. Both games will begin at 1:30 p.m.
