The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released it 2012 All-America Teams on Tuesday and Lake Forest College's Mahir Mameledzija was a Third Team selection at forward. He is the first All-American in program history.
Mameledzija, a junior, led the nation with 27 goals and tied for the lead with 59 points. His 1.35 goals and 2.95 points per game were also the highest marks in the country. He scored at least once in 14 of 20 contests with 10 multi-goal games, including three hat tricks. He scored 11 official game-winning goals, including three in 1-0 victories.
His goal and point totals were easily single-season team records and he also broke the Midwest Conference record in both categories.
Lake Forest posted a 15-4-1 overall record in 2012 and claimed the 15th conference title in team history with a 9-0-1 mark during league play. The Foresters earned the right to host the four-team MWC Tournament and advanced to the event's final for the first time in 11 years.
Mameledzija climbed into second place in program history with 53 career goals and 123 points. His 17 career assists rank tied-for-10th.
He was also named MWC Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and to the league's First Team on November 15. Twelve days later he was named to the Capitol One Academic All-America® first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In addition to being the first Forester to earn All-America honors, Mameledzija is the first player from the MWC to earn the award from the NSCAA.
