Mahir Mameledzija Earns Capital One Academic All-America® First Team Honors

Lake Forest College men's soccer player Mahir Mameledzija was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. He is the first player in team history to earn the award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve player on a university or college team and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. CoSIDA members nominate student-athletes from their schools and vote for the winners at the district level. A national committe selects the Capitol One Academic All-America® teams.

Mameledzija, a junior Spanish and chemistry major with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average, finished first in the country with 27 goals, 1.35 goals per game, and 2.95 points per game and tied for the national lead with 59 points. He was named Midwest Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year after setting single-season league records for goals and points. Mameledzija scored at least once in 14 of 20 contests with three hat tricks and seven two-goal games. He netted the game-winning goal 11 times, including three in 1-0 victories. After just three seasons, his 53 career goals and 123 points rank second in team history.

Lake Forest was 15-4-1 overall in 2012 and captured the program's first conference championship in 11 years with a 9-1-0 league record.
