Foresters Close out Regular Season with 2-1 Victory over Whitewater

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team hosted an defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2-1 on Sunday and finished the regular season with a 14-3-1 overall record. Junior Mahir Mameledzija scored both of the Foresters' goals in the second half.

Mameledzija's first goal of the contest was scored four minutes into the second half and tied the score at one. Junior Jordan Hartman played a through ball to Mameledzija, who maneuvered around the Whitewater goalie and kicked the ball into the goal from a difficult angle on the right side.

The winner was a free kick that Mameledzija bent around the right side of the Warhawk wall with just 6:44 to play in the contest.

Whitewater's only goal was scored at 33:55.

Both teams attempted six shots in the first half and five in the second.

Forester seniors Ethan Guenther and Giancarlo Colasanti split time at goalkeeper. Guenther made four saves in the first half anf Colasanti stopped a pair of shots on goal in the second and earned the victory.

Whitewater fell to 7-5-3 on the year.

With a league record of 9-1-0, Lake Forest clinched the 15th Midwest Conference championship in program history last weekend and will host the four-team MWC Tournament next Friday and Saturday. The Foresters will take on Grinnell College (9-7-1, 6-4-0 MWC) in the semifinals at 2:00 Friday afternoon while Carroll University (10-7-1, 8-1-1 MWC) faces Beloit College (11-4-1, 6-3-1 MWC) at the same time at Highland Park High School. Saturday's tournament final is also scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
