Mameledzija and Grijalva Sweep MWC Performer of the Week Awards

Lake Forest College men's soccer players Mahir Mameledzija and Brett Grijalva were named Midwest Conference Offensive and Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively, on Monday after helping lead the Foresters to a pair of shutouts in the previous seven days.

Mameledzija, a junior forward, continued his torrid scoring pace by netting the only goal in the team's 1-0 victory over visiting Carroll University on Wednesday and accounting for the first two scores in a 3-0 triumph over Knox College at home on Saturday.

Mameledzija's second goal on Saturday was his 22nd of the season, breaking the program record set by Bryan Porto in 1969. It was also his 10th official game-winning goal of the year.

Grijalva, a freshman midfielder, helped limit Carroll to 11 total shots and six on goal. He scored his first career goal on Saturday and helped the Forester defense hold Knox to just three shots overall and zero on goal.

Lake Forest is now 11-2-1 overall and moved into first place in the Midwest Conference standings with a 7-1-0 league record.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Mameledzija also earned the award on September 10, October 1, and once during each of his first two seasons.
