Foresters Fall at Carthage in Battle of Regionally-Ranked Teams

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team, ranked 10th in the North Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, was defeated 3-1 at Carthage College, the eighth-ranked team in the Central Region, Tuesday night. Forester freshman Themis Mourikes scored his first career goal.

Carthage took the early lead on a goal in the 23rd minute and led 1-0 with a 9-4 advantage in shots at halftime.

Both teams attempts six shots in the final 45 minutes.

The Red Men scoring for the second time in the contest at 51:58 but the Foresters got back in the game on the goal by Mourikes with eight minutes to play in the period.

A Lake Forest foul in the box, however, led to a penalty kick goal in the final minute to secure the victory for Carthage.

Forester senior Giancarlo Colasanti made a season-high five saves in the contest.

Lake Forest fell to 11-3-1 overall this season while the Red Men raised their record to 12-4-0.

The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play on the road this weekend. They will play at Monmouth College at 1:30 Saturday afternoon and on Sunday at the same time at Illinois College. Victories in both games would give Lake Forest the 15th league title in program history and the right to host the four-team 2012 MWC Tournament November 2-3.
