Foresters Begin 2012 with Overtime Loss at Aurora

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 in overtime at Aurora University on Friday. Junior Mahir Mameledzija scored the Foresters' second goal and is now tied for eighth place in team history with 66 career points.

Mameledzija's score was assisted by senior Garrett Donnelly and tied the game 2-2 in the 29th minute.

Aurora had jumped out to a 2-0 lead with scores at 5:05 and 10:39. Lake Forest's first goal of the season was scored by freshman Evan Vogel at 20:46, with junior Alexi Spiratos picking up the assist.

Neither team was able to score again until the 95:30 mark when Aurora was successful on a penalty shot resulting from a Forester foul.

The Foresters had a slight 10-9 advantage in shots and attempted six corner kicks to the Spartans' four. Both team's goalies recorded a pair of saves.

Lake Forest will play its home opener at Eureka College Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
