Casey and Widlar Sweep MLC Player of the Week Honors

Lake Forest College's John Casey was voted Midwest Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Andrew Widlar MLC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Casey was the Foresters' leading scorer with four goals in Wednesday's 12-7 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology and five scores in Saturday's 12-3 triumph over Benedictine University. The junior attacker also assisted on a goal, caused a turnover, and led the team with five ground balls on Saturday. Casey leads Lake Forest with 15 goals this season, despite playing in just three of five contests.

Widlar, a sophomore goaltender, stopped 7 of 11 shots on goal against Illinois Tech and 9 of 12 against Benedictine. He also registered a caused turnover in both games. Widlar now ranks second in the nation with a 3.01 goals against average and 13th with a .688 save percentage on the year.

The victories extended the Foresters' season-opening win streak to five games and they have outscored opponents by a combined score of 76-18 in those contests.

MLC Players of the Week are selected by the league's head coaches. Casey also earned the award once last year.
