The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 2-1 by visiting Trine University Friday night in the opener of the weekend series.

All three goals were scored in the second period, beginning with Forester sophomore forward Griffen Sanom's fourth of the season at the 8:53 mark. Trine was attempting to clear the zone when senior defenseman Scotty Nicholson poked the puck forward to junior forward Ben Perkins between the circles. Perkins turned and fired a pass to Sanom, who scored the power play goal from just in front of the right post.

The home team's lead was short-lived, however, as the Thunder converted a power play goal of their own just 57 seconds later. The visitors scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 12:16 mark.

The teams combined for six penalties in the second period and 10 in the third.

Trine out-shot Lake Forest 31-23 on the night.

The Foresters fell to 9-9-4 overall and 6-6-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Trine is now 14-7-1 overall and 9-6-0 in the league.

The teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
