The Lake Forest College men's hockey team hosted and defeated Adrian College, the third-ranked team in the nation, 5-3 on Saturday.

Sophomore defenseman Matteas Derraugh and senior forward David Cohen each scored twice on the day. Both scored in the first five minutes of the contest and Derraugh added his sixth of the year later in the opening period, which ended with the home team ahead 3-2.

After losing a pair of one-goal leads in the first, the Foresters added to their advantage with a power play goal by freshman forward Justin Ross at 1:54 in the second. Senior defenseman Scotty Nicholson, who had helped set up the home team's previous goal, recorded his second helper of the day as Ross raised his season goal total to eight.

The Bulldogs scored a power play goal of the their own at 12:03 in the second to trim the Lake Forest lead back down to a single tally.

It was still a 4-3 game late in the third and the visitors were less than 30 seconds away from killing off a major penalty when Cohen netted Lake Forest's second power play goal of the contest. Ross assisted on the score to join Derraugh, Cohen and Nicholson with two-point performances.

The Bulldogs pulled their goaltender with 2:14 to play but were unable to get any closer against Forester senior goaltender Nick Wiencek. He made 39 saves in the game and stopped each of the last 26 shots on goal he faced.

The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 7-8-4 and, after collecting four points from the Bulldogs on the weekend, the team is now 4-5-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Adrian fell to 14-3-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the league.

The Foresters will take on Lawrence University next weekend. The teams will face off in Appleton, Wisconsin, Friday night at 7:00 and in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse at the same time on Saturday. Saturday is also the Foresters' Alumni Night and the program's Peter Taylor Award will be presented between the first and second periods.
