Foresters Finish Off Sweep of Concordia Wisconsin, Win Border Battle

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 6-4 Saturday night to sweep the weekend series.

Each of the Foresters' six goals were scored by a different player, beginning with the second of the season for junior forward Ben Perkins just 2:18 into the contest. Freshman forward Justin Ross added his sixth of the year 43 seconds later, giving the home team an early 2-0 lead.

Concordia Wisconsin responded with a pair of goals of their own in the next three-and-a-half minutes to tie the score.

Lake Forest struck again at 11:29 on sophomore forward Jared Gerger's fifth of the year but the first period ended with the teams knotted after a Falcon goal at 18:26.

The scoring barrage continued early in the second period. The home team regained the lead when freshman forward Andrew Kimball celebrated his collegiate debut with a goal at 3:33 but, once again, the Falcons evened the score at 7:10.

The official game-winning goal came just 20 seconds later on sophomore forward Donny Borgula's first score of the season.

After outshooting the their guests 34-26 in the first two periods combined, the Foresters put 25 shots on goal to the Falcon's 12 in the final 20 minutes. Senior forward David Cohen tacked on his eighth goal of the season at the 2:38 mark.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Nick Wiencek made 34 saves to earn the victory at improve to 4-2-0 on the year.

The weekend sweep gave the Foresters a victory in the teams' Border Battle for the sixth time in eight seasons and they were presented with the Border Battle Cup after the contest.

Saturday night's victory evened Lake Forest's overall record at 6-6-3 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark at 3-3-2. Concordia Wisconsin fell to 2-13-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the league.

THe Foresters will play at St. Norbert College next weekend. Friday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's at 4:00 p.m.
