The Lake Forest College men's hockey team left Minnesota happy on Saturday after posting a 6-3 victory at Saint Mary's University.

The Foresters had to post a pair of comebacks in the game, despite starting the scoring three-and-a-half minutes into the contest on the first career goal by freshman forward Justin Ross.

The home team had a quick response, evening the score after just 13 seconds and then taking the lead 22 seconds later.

The teams then traded power play goals, the first by Forester freshman Colin Bella at the 7:30 mark and the second putting Saint Mary's back on top at 13:54.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Nick Wiencek kept the puck out of his goal for the rest of the afternoon and finished the contest with 23 saves.

The Foresters put 30 shots on goal in the final two periods and scored twice in each of them. Senior forward Drew Shields tied the score again at 7:11 in the second and Bella earned his first career game-winner with 4:20 to play in the period. Insurance tallies came from sophomore forward Jared Gerger on the power play and junior forward Shane Hathaway at even strength in the third.

Senior defenseman Erik Nilsson had a pair of assisted for the visitors while Ross and Gerger added helpers in their two-point performances on the day.

Lake Forest returns home at 1-0-1 after the opening weekend of the season. The team will play its home opener against Aurora University Tuesday night at 7:00.
