Final Weekend of Regular Season Starts with Loss at Marian

The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 7-2 at Marian University on Friday and will host the Sabres in Saturday night's regular season finale.

Marian took control of the game early, scoring four times in the opening period.

Lake Forest had a chance to get back in the game when freshman defenseman Matteas Derraugh got the Foresters on the scoreboard at the 11:24 mark of the second period. Junior forward Tyler Nielsen and senior forward Cullen Kane set up the score. All five of Derraugh's goals this season have come on the power play.

The Sabres, however regained their four-goal advantage just 78 seconds later and added two more scores in the first 45 seconds of the third.

Foresters junior forward David Cohen closed out the scoring in the final minute with his sixth tally of the season. Nielsen and freshman Connor Sullivan were credited with assists on the play.

Marian outshot the visitors 40-28 on the evening.

Lake Forest fell to 7-15-2 overall and 5-10-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association this season. Marian is now 9-12-3 overall and 4-11-2 in the league.

The teams will face off again in Lake Forest Saturday night at 7:00. It will be the Foresters' Senior Night and Alumni Night and the 2022 Peter Taylor Award will be presented during the first intermission.
