Slow Start Dooms Foresters at Adrian

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 8-3 at Adrian College on Saturday.

The Bulldogs outshot the Foresters 18-9 and scored four goals in the opening period.

Lake Forest finally got on the scoreboard six seconds into the second period on a short-handed goal by senior forward Will Lebel. The unassisted tally was his fifth score of the season and first career short-handed goal. 

The teams were at even strength four minutes later when sophomore Ben Perkins trimmed the Foresters' deficit to two with his fifth goal of the year. Senior forward Josh Giacomin and junior defenseman Scotty Nicholson set up the score.

Adrian, however, regained its four-goal advantage with scores at 6:41 and 13:52.

The Bulldogs were on the power play again a few minutes later when Giacomin scored the Foresters' second short-handed goal of the contest. It was the first time Lake Forest scored multiple short-handed goals in a game since a 6-0 triumph over Adrian on January 11, 2019.

Adrian, the top-ranked team in the country, put 52 shots on goal to the Foresters' 30.

Lake Forest fell to 6-12-1 overall and 4-7-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Adrian improved to 18-1-0 overall while victories in all 12 league games.

The Foresters will take on Lawrence University next weekend and will host the Vikings Friday night at 7:00. Saturday's game will be played in Appleton, Wisconsin, and will also begin at 7:00.
