The Forester men's hockey team scored twice in the third period but needed one more in a 4-3 loss at Manhattanville College on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, the Valiants took the lead less than a minute into the second.

Lake Forest responded with a power play goal off the stick of freshman forward Noah Furman at the 4:38 mark. Junior forward Drew Shields and defenseman Vaughan Bamford assisted on Furman's second goal of the series and third this season.

Manhattanville then rattled off three unanswered goals, the last with just 24.9 seconds on the second period clock.

The Foresters' comeback effort began with senior forward Cullen Kane's first score of the year at 2:43. Fellow senior forward Josh Giacomin and freshman defenseman Connor Sullivan picked up assists on the play.

The visitors went on the power play with 4:44 to play and added to their advantage on the ice by pulling their goalie in favor of an extra attacker. While they were unable to convert on the power play opportunity, the Foresters finally cut the deficit to one when junior forward Ryan Kropp lit the lamp for the first time this season at 18:41.

Lake Forest's goalie exited again a few seconds later but Manhattanville held on for the victory.

The Foresters out-shot the home team 34-19 on the afternoon but could not avoid falling to 3-5-1 on the year. Manhattanville improved to 6-3-1.

Lake Forest will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at home against Finlandia University next weekend. The teams will face off Friday afternoon at 4:00 and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
