Men's hockey goaltender Nick Wiencek was named the men's Forester Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after a shutout performance against St. Mary's University over the weekend.
Wiencek was in goal for the Foresters during their Saturday game against St. Mary's. He made a career-high 40 saves during the game, turning away all 16 shots on goal he faced in the first 20 minutes and adding 12 saves in each of the final two periods. With the win, Wiencek earned his first career shutout and victory.
Wiencek's save total was the highest by a Forester goaltender in a shutout performance since Brandon Kohuch tallied 53 in a scoreless tie against the University of River Falls in February of 2009.
The Forester Athletes of the Week are voted for by the athletic department on Tuesdays.
