Foresters Edged Out at Adrian in Season Opener

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team traveled to Adrian College for its season opener on Wednesday and were defeated 3-1. It ws the 15th official game of the year for the Bulldogs, who improved to 10-5-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Forester senior goaltender Boyd DiClemente turned in a stellar performance with a career-high 42 saves in 44 opportunities. He came off the ice in favor of an extra attacker with 90 seconds remaining in the contest and the visitors put four shots on goal during that span but each was turned away.

DiClemente tallied 17 saves in the opening period but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. Lake Forest evened the score at the 4:24 mark of the second period when sophomore forward Will Lebel turned in the team's first goal of the season. The power play score was assisted by senior forward Aaron O'Neill and sophomore forward Drew Shields.

Adrian regained the lead 52 seconds into the final stanza and scored again just a moment before the buzzer sounded to account for the final score.

Lake Forest will take on Milwaukee School of Engineering this weekend with the teams facing off in Milwaukee Friday night and in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on Saturday. Game time both days is 7:00 p.m. The Foresters will then look to avenge today's loss when they host Adrian next Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
