Foresters Take Series Opener with St. Olaf 3-1

Junior forward Joey Sardina started the scoring with his first goal of the season Saturday night in Lake Forest's 3-1 victory over visiting St. Olaf College.

Sardina was assisted by a pair of freshman, defenseman Scotty Nicholson and forward Drew Shields, 62 seconds into the second period. The Foresters then doubled their lead at the 2:52 mark on freshman forward David Cohen's team-high fourth goal of the year. Junior defenseman Mark DerManulian and senior defenseman Zach Feldman set up Cohen's first official game-winning goal.

St. Olaf's only goal of the game was scored with 1:41 remaining in the second period.

The Foresters clinched the victory late in the third when sophomore forward Will Lebel hit an empty net with 13.2 seconds on the clock. Junior forward Aaron O'Neill was credited with an assist as Lebel matched Cohen for the team lead in goals.

Lake Forest out-shot the visitors in every period and by a 43-24 count for the game.

Junior goaltender Boyd DiClemente made 23 saves and improved to 6-1-1 with a .923 save percentage and 2.26 goals against average on the year.

The Foresters are now 6-2-1 and St. Olaf 1-8-0 this season. The two teams will complete their weekend series Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
