Junior Aaron O'Neill scored the final goal with 8:15 remaining Friday night as Lake Forest skated to a 3-3 season-opening tie at Saint Mary's University.

O'Neill's score was assisted by senior Austin Aksoy and sophomore Josh Giacomin and was the only tally of the third period. The Foresters were also responsible for the only goal in the second stanza, which was scored by Aksoy and assisted by O'Neill and senior Connor Duncan at 5:15 on the power play.

The first goal of the contest also came from the visitors, who took the lead 106 seconds into the season on a score by junior Kyler Magus. A pair of freshmen, Drew Shields and David Cohen, assisted on the score during their first shift as collegiate players.

The Cardinals answered with a power play goal at the 7:18 mark and even-strength scores at 10:09 and 11:41. Forester junior goaltender Boyd DiClemente kept the home team from adding to that total the rest of the way and finished with 21 saves in his first start since February of 2018.

Lake Forest and Saint Mary's will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
