Joe Sardina Named Forester Athlete of the Week

Lake Forest College hockey player Joe Sardina was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance in a home-and-home series with Aurora University over the weekend.

Sardina scored a pair of goals in Friday night's 5-5 tie on the road, the first on the power play to give the visitors a 2-1 lead late in the opening period. Lake Forest was trailing 5-4 in the third period when he redirected a shot from the point by junior Connor Duncan past the Spartan goalie with just 49.5 seconds on the clock. The tie clinched home ice advantage for the Foresters in this weekend's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoff quarterfinal series.

Lake Forest closed out the regular season with a 3-0 triumph over Aurora at home on Saturday and Sardina netted the second goal of the contest. It was his 10th score of the season and he leads the team with 19 points.

Sardina now has eight points on seven goals and an assist in six career games against Aurora.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
