Lake Forest Sweeps NCHA Player of the Week Honors

Lake Forest College men's hockey players Josh Giacomin and George Argiropoulos were named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday after leading the Foresters to a pair of victories over the weekend.

Lake Forest posted a 6-0 shutout of Adrian College, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, on Friday to climb into first place in the NCHA South Division standings. Giacomin, a freshman forward, assisted on a goal in the second period, was responsible for one of the home team's four scores in the third, and was +4 in the game. Argiropoulos, a senior goaltender, made 19 saves in the contest, including 10 in the final 20 minutes, for his second career shutout.

The Foresters maintained their spot atop the divisional standings with a 4-1 triumph over Trine University on Saturday and Giacomin and Argiropoulos were once again significant contributors to the victory. The home team was once again ahead 2-0 after two periods, thanks to Giacomin's first career short-handed goal in the opening frame and what turned out to be his first game-winner in the second. Argiropoulos was just a few minutes away from a perfect weekend in goal when the Thunder took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play with just 4:05 to play. He finished with 19 saves for the second straight contest.

Giacomin now has six points on four goals and a pair of assists this season. Argiropoulos improved to 4-1-2 on the year and now ranks fifth in the nation with a .942 save percentage and eighth in goals against average at 1.68.

NCHA Players of the Week are selected by the league's directors of media and information. Argiropoulos also earned the award last week.
