Junior forward Austin Aksoy netted his first goal of the season, but one would not be enough as the Forester men's hockey team fell 3-1 to the College of St. Scholastica at home on Saturday.
There was just one goal scored in the first period and it came from the Saints at 6:39. Shots were split right down the middle at 10 a piece after 20 minutes of play.
The Foresters came back and tied the score at one at the 5:14 mark of the second period. Senior forward Bron Loiselle circled around the cage and gave a beautiful feed to Aksoy, who found the back of the net.
The Saints then scored to take a 2-1 lead late the second frame on the lone power play goal of the game.
Down 2-1, Lake Forest had chances to even the score again in the third but could not capitalize. The Foresters pulled their goalie with 2:42 to play but the Saints put it away with an empty net score with just eight seconds remaining.
Lake Forest fell to 0-2-2 overall on the season and 0-1-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while St Scholastica evened its overall and NCHA record at 1-1-0.
The Foresters will square off at Marian University at 7:00 next Friday night and at Lawrence University Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
