Junior forward Bron Loiselle's first career four-point game highlighted the Lake Forest College men's hockey team's 6-2 victory at Trine University on Saturday.
Loiselle scored the game's first goal at the 12:44 mark of the opening period. The power play goal was assisted by sophomore defenseman Connor Duncan and junior forward Cody Guidorzi.
Trine, in the program's first year as a varsity sport, evened the score at the 18:41 mark and took the lead with five seconds remaining in the period. The Thunder had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes.
The home team was assessed with nine penalties, including a major and a game misconduct, in the second period. The Foresters finally took advantage with a power play goal by Guidorzi at 15:20. Guidorzi's sixth score this season was set up by Loiselle and sophomore forward Austin Aksoy. Lake Forest then took the lead on another power play goal just 26 seconds later. It proved to be the first career game-winner for freshman forward Aaron O'Niell, who now has five scores overall this year. Duncan and junior defenseman Ryan Kruss earned assists on the pay. Lake Forest put 20 shots on goal to the Thunder's seven in the second period.
The Foresters outshot the home team 15-13 in the third and tacked on three insurance goals in the period. Loiselle scored the first, his third of the season, at the 3:59 mark with senior forward Davis DeKorte assisting. Loiselle and Aksoy then assisted on the first career goal for freshman defenseman Nolan Carothers just 24 seconds later. Carothers recorded his first career assist and junior forward John Nugent also set up Duncan on the final goal of the game with 4:01 on the clock. It was the fourth goal of the season and career-high-tying third points of the game for Duncan.
Lake Forest junior goaltender Louis-Philippe De Courcy stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal in the contest and improved to 6-5-0 on the year.
The Foresters are now 9-8-0 overall and 6-4-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. Trine fell to 4-11-2 overall and 0-8-2 in the league.
Lake Forest will be back on the road for two more conference games next weekend, beginning Friday night at 8:00 at Marian University. The Foresters will also travel to Lawrence University for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on Saturday.
