Foresters Fall in Battle with Nation's Top-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 7-0 at home Friday night by St. Norbert College, the top-ranked team in the country.

The Green Knights scored three goals in the opening frame, two of which came on shots from the high slot. The visitors were 2-for-2 on the power play in the period while out-shooting the Foresters 13-6.

Lake Forest had more chances in the second period than in the opening 20 but had nothing to show for it. St. Norbert scored the only goal of the stanza at 5:11 on a breakaway. The home team went into the second intermission having been outshot 21-11 through two periods.

After allowing two more goals in the opening minutes of the final period freshman goaltender Boyd DiClemente took over in the pipes. He stopped 11 of the 12 shots on goal he faced in 17:51.

St. Norbert had a 17-4 advantage in shot in the third and a 38-15 edge for the game.

The Foresters fell to 7-7-0 overall and 4-3-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Green Knights improved their record to 12-1-1 overall with seven victories in as many conference games.

Lake Forest will have a quick turnaround and take on Finlandia University at 3:00 Saturday afternoon in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
