Freshman forward Troy Nelson scored his first career goal in the Forester men's hockey team's 3-1 victory over visiting Marian University Friday night.

Nelson backhanded a rebound past the Marian goaltender from between the circles to give the home team a 2-0 lead at the 13:10 mark of the opening period. Senior forward Billy Kent had the shot before Nelson's and junior forward Vito Aluia also earned an assist on the score.

Lake Forest had taken the early lead at the 7:23 mark on freshman forward Aaron O'Neill's second goal of the season. O'Neill was assisted by senior forward George Gerasimou.

After out-shooting the Sabres 11-7 in the opening period, the Foresters put 16 more shots on goal in the second, including junior forward Cody Guidorzi's first score of the season, he took a pass from fellow junior forward Bron Loiselle and blasted it past the Marian goalie to make the score 3-0 at 6:22 in the period. The visitors had six shots on target while committing six penalties to Lake Forest's four in the period.

Both team's put 11 shots on goal in the game's final 20 minutes, giving the home team a 38-24 edge in that category in the game.

Forester junior goaltender Louis-Philippe De Courcy's bid for a season straight shutout ended with just 4:06 remaining in the contest. He finished the night with 23 saves in 24 chances and improved to 2-1-0 with a 1.31 goals against average and a .956 save percentage so far this season.

Lake Forest is now 3-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this year. Marian fell to 1-2-0, both overall and in the league.

The Foresters will host Lawrence University Saturday evening at 5:00.
