Senior forward Davis DeKorte scored his first goal of the year and the team's first power play score this season but the Foresters fell 5-2 Friday night at Northland College.

Northland struck first 7:26 into the first period on a turnover in front of the Foresters' net. The LumberJacks had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and led 1-0 at the first intermission.

The Foresters evened the score on the power play at the 15:44 mark of the second period when Dekorte banged  home a lose puck in front of the Northland netminder. Sophomore forward Austin Aksoy earned the primary assist on the goal and sophomore defenseman Connor Duncan the second for his first point of the season. Lake Forest would finish the night 1-for-5 on the man advantage.

Lake Forest out-shot the home team 15-9 in the second period and 16-9 in the third.

The visitors gained a one goal advantage at the half-way through the final period when senior forward George Gerasimou registered his second goal of the season. It was the second score of the night for the Aksoy-DeKorte-Gerasimou line. The first two career scores of Gerasimou's career have come in back-to-back games.

The Lumberjacks, however, erupted for four goals in the last seven minutes of play and came out on top 5-2.

Both teams are now 1-2-0 on the season. It was the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association openier for the Foresters while all three of Northland's games have been against NCHA opponents.

Lake Forest will travel to Duluth, Minnesota, on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. puck drop against the Saints from the College of St. Scholastica (3-0-0).
