Foresters Dig Too Deep a Hole against Nation's 15th-Ranked Team

Freshman defenseman Zach Feldman scored his first career goal but the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 5-3 by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the 15th-ranked team in the nation, at home Saturday night.

Feldman scored unassisted at the 9:41 mark of the third period. It was the Foresters' second straight goal after allowing the first four scores of the contest. Junior forward Charlie Izaguirre put Lake Forest on the scoreboard with a power play goal at the 4:54 mark of the final period. Senior forward Jack Lewis assisted on Izaguirre's fourth score of the season.

Eau Claire, which scored the only goal of the opening period at 13:48 and added a pair of tallied in the second, regained its three-goal cushion with a score at 13:14 in the third.

Junior forward Anthony Annunziato scored the final goal of the night with just 44.4 seconds on the clock. His second of the year was set up by senior forward Billy Kent and sophomore forward Drew Cleereman.

Eau Claire had a 34-15 advantage in shots on goal through two periods. The Foresters put a dozen shots on target to the Blugold's six in the final 20 minutes.

Lake Forest fell to 5-4-0 this season while Eau Claire improved to 5-1-2.

The Foresters will play two more non-conference games at home next weekend when they host Nazareth College Friday night at 7:00 and at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
