Tough Third Period Dooms Foresters at St. Scholastica

Senior forward Jack Lewis took over the national lead in goals but the Lake Forest College men's hockey team fell 5-3 at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday.

Lewis scored twice within a 31-second span in the second period. His power play goal at 5:18 tied the game at two and the visitors took the lead at 5:49 on his third score this season. Freshman defenseman Connor Duncan and sophomore forward Bron Loiselle set up Lewis' first score of the game and senior forward Justin Pelock assisted on the second.

Lake Forest also took the lead early in the contest when junior forward Anthony Annunziato lit the lamp for the first time this season. His goal at the 7:10 mark of the opening period was assisted by freshman defenseman Zach Feldman and senior defenseman Mark Esshaki.

The Saints tied the score at 8:09 in the first and took the lead just 46 seconds later. After the goals by Lewis in the second period, the home team pulled even again on a power play goal at 2:24 in the third and regained the lead at 11:23. St. Scholastica added an insurance goal with 1:48 remaining in the contest.

St. Scholastica out-shot the Foresters 12-10 in the first period and 10-5 in the third. Both teams put 14 shots on goal in the second.

The loss drops Lake Forest's overall and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association records to 3-3-0 while the Saints improved to 3-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the league.

The Foresters will be back in action Tuesday night at Aurora University. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m.
