Foresters Knock Off Nation's Second-Ranked Team

Sophomore goaltender George Argiropoulos made 30 saves, including 17 in the second period, to help the Lake Forest College men's hockey team prevail 5-3 at St. Norbert College, the #2 team in the country, Saturday night.

Argiropoulos blanked the Green Knights on eight saves while the Foresters scored three times in the opening period. Senior forward Jack Lewis turned in his second multi-goal of the year, connecting on an unassisted score at 4:04 and converting a power play opportunity at 7:08. Junior forward Charlie Izaguirre assisted on the second score, the fifth of the season for Lewis. Junior forward Billy Kent added to the lead with 20 seconds on the clock, giving the visitors a 3-0 advantage. Sophomore forward Cody Guidorzi assisted on the Kent's third goal of the season.

Guidorzi recorded another assist a minute-and-a-half into the second period when senior forward Jimmy Cusan netted the offifial game-winner. It was his first score this year.

Argiropoulos was able to keep the home team off the scoreboard until the 7:22 mark of the second period. The Green Knights cut even deeper into the lead when they pulled the goaltender in advance of a penalty and scored at the 14:20 mark, making the score 4-2. Lake Forest was out-shot 19-7 in the second period but the 17 saves by Argiropoulos enabled the Foresters to maintain the lead.

The shots-on-goal totals were closer to even in the final 20 minutes, with St. Norbert having a slight 6-5 edge. Neither team scored again until the Knights, while shorthanded, pulled the goalie in the final two minutes and scored with 1:01 to play in the contest. Their goalie was off the ice again in the closing seconds and Guidorzi found the empty net in the last second of the game for his first score of the season. With a goal and two assists, it was the first career multi-point game for Guidorzi.

Both teams are now 3-1-0 overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. The victory kept the Foresters tied with Adrian College atop the NCHA South Division standings.
