Lake Forest Unable to Keep Up with Marian in the Third Period

The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 8-3 by visiting Marian University Saturday night. Lake Forest will play a pair of  non-conference games against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next week.

The Foresters were outscored by one in each of the first two periods. After Marian took the early lead just two minutes and seven seconds into the contest, the home team tied the score junior forward Justin Pelock's second goal of the year at 3:50. Pelock was assisted by senior forward Ian Pichel and freshman forward Bron Loiselle. The Sabres went back on top on a power play goal with just 25 seconds to play in the period.

Lake Forest evened the score again on a power play goal by junior forward Jack Lewis just 62 seconds into the second period. Pelock and Pichel assisted on the team-leading eighth goal of the season by Lewis. Marian rattled off three consecutive goals before Forester freshman forward Vito Aluia lit the lamp 19 seconds before the second intermission. Lewis earned the assist on Aluia's third score of the year.

The score remained 5-3 in favor of the Sabre until they scored three more times in a three-minute span late in the third period.

Marian had a 40-22 advantage in shots on goal on the night.

Lake Forest is now 6-11-0 overall this season and 4-10-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Marian, which entered the weekend ranked 15th in the nation by D3hockey.com, improved to 11-5-3 overall and 9-4-1 in the league.

The Foresters will host Stevens Point, which is ranked among top four in the country in a pair of polls, Wednesday night at 7:00 before traveling to Stevens Point on Saturday for another 7:00 p.m. face-off.
