Foresters Eliminated by Nation's Top-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team had its season come to an end Saturday night after falling 6-0 at St. Norbert College, the nation's top-ranked team. The Foresters finished the season with a 15-12-1 record.

Lake Forest has increased its victory total by five each of the last two seasons and the Foresters 2013-14 final record is their best in 10 years.

Saturday night's game was one of two NCHA Harris Cup semifinal contests. The College of St. Scholastica edged out host Adrian College 4-3 in the other and will travel to St. Norbert for next Saturday's Harris Cup Final.

The Green Knights, who are now 23-3-1 on the season, started the scoring on Saturday at the 4:15 mark of the opening period. They doubled their lead on a power play goal 64 seconds into the second and added to it with 92 seconds remaining in the period. Three third period scores, including another power play goal, helped secure the victory.

It was the first time the Foresters were shut out this season and the 92 goals they scored on the year are their most since netting 101 in 2005-06. The team is slated to lose just three seniors -- forwards Mike Violette, Chris Gard, and Pat Charron -- to graduation in the spring.
