Foresters Finish Off Sweep of MSOE, Clinch Home Ice for NCHA Quarterfinals

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team won 4-1 at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, completing a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Raiders. Forester junior forward Bobby Barrett scored a pair of goals in the contest and continues to lead the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association in goals and points during league play.

Barrett scored what turned out to be his fifth game-winning goal of the year at the 17:01 mark of the opening period. The power play score was assisted by junior defensemen Ben Certo and Charlie Stein and gave the Foresters a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Anthony Annunziato netted the first goal of the game at the 11:32 mark. Sophomore forward Ian Pichel and freshman forward Jack Lewis assisted on Annunziato's fifth goal of the season.

Barrett added to the Lake Forest lead with his 17th goal of the year at the 6:10 mark of the second period. Sophomore forward Alec DeAngelo and senior forward Mike Violette assisted on the score. Barrett now has a league-high 15 goals and 25 points in 16 conference games.

The Raiders scored their only goal of the contest at 16:21 in the second period.

The final goal of the game was an empty net score by junior forward Jason McAloon with 35 seconds on the third period clock. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Lewis.

Forester sophomore goaltender Leo Podolsky made 17 saves in the contest and improved to 12-1-1 with a 2.10 goals against average and .921 saves percentage on the year.

The Foresters raised their overall record to 14-8-1 and climbed into third place in the NCHA standings with a league mark of 11-5-0. With a week remaining in the regular season, the team can finish no worse than fourth and therefore clinched home-ice advantage for their NCHA quarterfinal series February 21-22.

Lake Forest, which owns the longest unbeaten streak in the nation at 10 games, will close out the regular season at Adrian College next weekend. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:00 (EST) and again the following afternoon at 3:00 (EST).
