Foresters Win Overtime Thriller over Lawrence

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team completed a home-and-home series sweep of Lawrence Univerallersity with a 3-2 overtime victory at home Saturday night. Junior forward Mcauley Banning scored the Foresters first two goals and assisted on the game-winner.

Banning's first goal of the game tied the score at one midway through the opening period and his second made it 2-2 at the 4:09 mark of the third. Both scores were assisted by freshman forward Justin Pelock and junior forward Jason McAloon. Banning now has six goals this season.

The game-winner was scored by junior forward Bobby Barrett just 53 seconds into the extra period. His team-high 15th goal this season was set up by passes from Banning and senoir forward Mike Violette.

The Foresters outshot Lawrence 13-8 in the first period, 19-6 in the second, and 9-8 in the third. Barrett's score was the only shot on goal in overtime.

Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Leo Podolsky made 20 saves on the night and improved to 10-1-1 with a 2.20 goals against average and .921 save percentage.

The Foresters are now 12-8-1 overall and 9-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Vikings fell to 5-15-1 overall and 4-10-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will play another home-and-home series next weekend against Milwaukee School of Engineering. The teams will face off in Lake Forest Friday night at 7:00 and in Milwaukee the following afternoon at 4:30.
