Lake Forest Rallies for 4-3 Victory at St. Olaf

The Forester men's hockey team erased a 3-1 third period deficit and defeated host St. Olaf College 4-3 on Saturday. Lake Forest junior Bobby Barrett scored the game-winning goal with 5:47 to play in the contest.

Barrett's unassisted score was his team-high 11th goal and third game-winner of the season. It followed power play scores by junior forward Jason McAloon at 3:51 and junior defenseman Ben Certo at 11:11. McAloon's fourth goal of the year was assisted by Certo and freshman forward Jack Lewis. Junior forward Mcauley Banning set up Certo's third score of 2013-14.

St. Olaf netted the only goal of the opening period, a power play score at 11:46. After the Foresters tied the score on junior forward Luke Swardenski's third goal of the season at 14:39 in the second, the Oles regained the lead with just 32 seconds left in the period. The margin reached two goals 85 seconds into the final period, setting up the Lake Forest comeback.

The Foresters were outshot 34-26 but sophomore goaltender Leo Podolsky stopped 31 shots on goal, including at least 10 in each period.

Lake Forest improved to 6-8-1 on the season while St. Olaf fell to 3-9-3.

The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play with a home-and-home series against Marian University next weekend. The teams will face off at Lake Forest College Saturday night at 7:00 and in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
