Lake Forest Comeback Bid at St. Mary's Falls Short

The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 2-1 at St. Mary's University Friday night in the opener of a weekend series. Freshman forward Jack Lewis broke up the shutout with 1:43 to play in the contest but Lake Forest was unable to complete the comeback.

The fifth goal of the season for Lewis was assisted by senior forward Mike Violette and junior forward Bobby Barrett.

The Foresters pulled freshman goaltender Billy Cooper with 70 seconds to play in the contest and were able to win a pair of faceoffs in the final minute but were unable to tie the score.

Cooper stopped 19 of 21 shots on goal on the night.

Lake Forest outshot the home team 12-3 in the final period and 29-21 in the game.

The Foresters fell to 5-4-0 on the season while the Cardinals raised their record to 4-5-0.

The same two teams will face off in another non-conference game Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
