Lake Forest Edges Out Finlandia 3-2 at Home

The Forester men's hockey team defeated visiting Finlandia University 3-2 Friday night. Lake Forest junior forward Bobby Barrett scored a pair of power play goals on the night, including his second game-winner of the season.

Forester freshman Jack Lewis started the scoring just a minute and 46 seconds into the contest. Sophomore forward Ian Pichel and sophomore defenseman Robert Wiener assisted on the fourth goal of the season for Lewis. Lake Forest added to its lead at the 4:59 mark when Barrett converted a power play opportunity. Junior defensemen Charlie Stein and Ben Certo recorded assists on the play.

Lake Forest had a 19-6 edge in shots on goal in the opening period and led 2-0 at the first intermission.

The Foresters also outshot Finlandia 13-9 in the second period but surrendered a power play goal at 12:33 and another score with 1:25 on the clock.

The score remained 2-2 until Barrett netted another power play goal at the 10:53 mark of the third. Lewis and Certo were each credited with an assist on Barrett's team-high seventh goal of the season.

Lake Forest put 17 shots on target to the Lions' five in the final period.

Forester sophomore goaltender Leo Podolsky made 18 saves on the night and raised his record on the season to 3-1-0.

Lake Forest is now 4-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Finlandia fell to 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
