Foresters Blank UW-Stout to Start 2013-14 Season

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team opened the 2013-14 season at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Friday night and came away with a 3-0 victory. It was the first career shutout for Forester sophomore goaltender Leo Podolsky.

Podolsky made 34 saves in the game, including 17 in the second period and 11 in the third.

Junior forward Jason McAloon netted Lake Forest's first goal of the season one minute and 50 seconds into the second period. The power play goal was assisted by freshman forward Justin Pelock and junior forward Mcauley Banning.

The Foresters doubled their lead with 3:52 to play in the second period on a score by senior defenseman Andrew Stein. Stein was assisted by freshman forwards Zach Mudge and Anthony Annunziato.

McAloon closed out the scoring with an unassisted short-handed goal with 33 seconds to play in the contest. It was his third career short-handed score.

Lake Forest had an 8-6 edge in shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes. Stout out-shot the Foresters 17-8 in the second period and both teams put 11 shots on goal in the third.

The loss dropped the Blue Devils' record on the season to 1-1-0.

The Foresters will play their home and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener next Friday night at 7:00 against Northland College. The teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
