Foresters Start Slow after 34-Day Layoff, Fall at Northland

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team trailed 3-0 after the opening period and fell 5-3 at Northland College Friday night. Forester sophomore Mcauley Banning scored a pair of goals in the contest.

Banning's first score of the night trimmed the deficit to 3-1 just 46 seconds into the second period and was assisted by fellow sophomores Charlie Stein and Jason McAloon. After the LumberJacks regained their three-goal advantage at the 4:30 mark, Lake Forest pulled back to within two on the fourth goal of the season by junior Roberto Caparelli at 8:09. He was assisted by junior Mike Violette and sophomore Bobby Barrett.

After being outshot 9-8 in the first period, the Foresters put 17 shots on goal to Northland's five in the second and had a 14-3 advantage in the third.

Stein and McAloon assisted Banning again at the 7:08 mark of the final period, pulling the visitors to within a goal. The power play score was Banning's third goal of the year. One of the home team's three shots on goal in the period found the back at 13:52 and neither team scored again.

The Foresters fell to 4-8-2 overall and 1-7-1 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. Northland raised its overall record to 4-8-1 and league mark to 2-7-0.

The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 3:05.
