Fast Start Keys Foresters' Victory at Concordia Wisconsin

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team scored four goals in the first period of its 6-2 victory at Concordia University Wisconsin Friday night. Junior Ethan Goldberg started the scoring with his first goal of the season and was one of a dozen Foresters with at least one point in the contest.

Goldberg lit the lamp two minutes and 25 seconds into the game and was assisted by freshmen Anthony Martinez and Charlie Stein. Junior Thomas Bark doubled the visitors' lead at the 7:40 mark. His fourth goal of the year was assisted by sophomore David Milne and freshman Luke Swardenski. Shortly after killing a penalty, the Foresters struck again at 12:35 on sophomore Mike Violette's third score of the season. Classmates Craig McDowell and Roberto Caparelli each picked up an assist on the play. Lake Forest's leader in goals, freshman Jason McAloon, also got in on the scoring at the 14:49 mark. Goldberg and freshman Mccauley Banning assisted on McAloon's 10th goal of 2011-12.

Concordia Wisconsin closed out the first period scoring 39 seconds later. The Foresters out-shot the home team 16-12 in the first 20 minutes of the game.

The Falcons pulled to within a pair of goals after converting a power play opportunity at 2:58 in the second period. Lake Forest regained its three-goal advantage, however, on an unassisted goal by Swardenski with 1:41 left on the clock. It was Swardenski's third goal of the year.

The Foresters had a 10-5 edge in shots on goal in the second period.

Banning netted what turned out to be the game's final goal at 9:14 in the third period. The power play score was set up by Bark and junior Dave Sharpe and was Banning's third goal of the season.

Lake Forest put 10 shots on goal in the final period and junior goaltender Brendan Sullivan turned away all 12 he faced from Concordia Wisconsin. He finished his season debut with 27 saves in 29 chances.

The Foresters are now 2-15-0 overall this season and 2-11-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. They trail the Falcons, who are now 2-13-3 overall and 2-9-2 in the league, by just two points in the MCHA standings.

The same two teams will face off in Lake Forest tomorrow night at 7:00. The Foresters' annual Peter Taylor Award will be presented at the first intermission.
