Foresters Fall to Northland, 4-2

The Lake Forest men's ice hockey team tied the game 2-2 early in the third period, but two goals from Northland doomed the Foresters in a 4-2 loss on Sunday at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

Northland (5-8-2, 4-5-1 MCHA) got on the board with a goal at 6:46 of the first period from Mike Lennon. The LumberJacks increased their lead to 2-0 at 3:07 of the second period as Austin Southerland's shot went top shelf over the shoulder of Forester goalie Marc Stuart.

Lake Forest (1-14, 1-9 MCHA) cut the lead 2-1 just eight seconds later as Mcauley Banning scored his second goal of the season. The Foresters tied the game at 2:20 of the third period as freshman Curran Forgue scored his first collegiate goal just in front of the net.

Northland regained the lead for good at 4:37 of the third period as the puck went Lake Forest goalie Marc Stuart's stick side and then added an empty net goal at 19:29.

Stuart made eight saves for the Foresters while his counterpart Ian Perrier stopped 34 shots.

The Foresters return to action on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22 with a pair of away games at Finlandia. Friday's game begins at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday's contest starts at 3 p.m.
