Foresters Fall at MSOE but Clinch Spot in MCHA Playoffs

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision at Milwaukee School of Engineering, the 10th-ranked team in the country, Saturday night. Forester senior Tyler Gross became the 20th player on the team to score a goal this season.

Gross' power play goal at the 13:20 mark of the opening period tied the game at one. Sophomores Zak Borowski and David Sharpe assisted on the score.

The score remained tied until the Raiders netted their second power play goal of the contest at the 7:40 mark of the second period. Lake Forest tied the game again when freshman Michael Violette assisted on sophomore Tom Bark's fourth goal of the year with 2:01 to play in the period.

M.S.O.E. regained the advantage for good at 3:57 in the third period and scored again 33 seconds later. The home team tacked on an insurance goal at 6:41. The final tally of the night belonged to Lake Forest freshman Kevin Spotts, who scored his second goal of 2010-11 with just 12 seconds on the clock. He was assisted by Violette and freshman Chris Gard.

Despite the loss, Lake Forest still clinched a spot in the six-team Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Playoffs when Adrian College won 7-1 at Concordia University Wisconsin, who trail the Foresters by six points in the standing with just two regular season games to play. Lake Forest will play a home-and-home series with Concordia Wisconsin next weekend. Friday night's contest in Lake Forest will begin at 7:30 and the teams will face off again in Mequon, Wisconsin, Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
