The Lake Forest College men's hockey team finished off a weekend
sweep at Finlandia University by defeating the Lions 3-0 on
Saturday (November 7). The Foresters raised their overall record on
the season to 2-1-0 and Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association mark
to 2-0-0. Finlandia falls to 0-2-0 overall and in the league.
After being out-shot 41-17 the night before, Lake Forest put 40
shots on goal on Saturday, more than twice Finlandia's 19. Lake
Forest freshman Brendan Sullivan (Fall River, Ma./Aurora Tigers)
stopped all 19 of the Lions' shots for his first collegiate
shutout.
The Foresters held a 13-6 edge in shots but failed to score in the
opening period.
The visitors finally broke through on a power play goal by senior
Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars) with 2:18
remaining in the second period. Pfeffer's second goal of the season
was assisted by freshmen Zak Borowski (Gloucester, Ma./Granite City
Lumberjacks) and Mike Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's
Buzzers).
Lake Forest doubled its lead at the 12:10 mark of the third period
on senior Adam Love's (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) first
goal of the year. Mike Rubino earned his second assist of the
contest and freshman Phil Bushbacher (Glenview, Ill./Aurora Tigers)
his first. The Foresters closed out the scoring with 1:28 remaining
in the game on freshman Marc Rubino's (Woodbridge, Ontario/St.
Michael's Buzzers) second goal of the season. The power play score
was assisted by Borowski and fellow freshman Thomas Bark (Toronto,
Ontario/Streetsville Derbys).
The Foresters will play their first MCHA home game Friday night
(November 13) against Lawrence University.
