The Forester men's hockey team fell 11-5 at Adrian College on
Saturday (November 21). Lake Forest is now 2-4-0 overall this
season and 2-3-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. The
Bulldogs, ranked fifth in the nation by U.S. College Hockey Online,
raised their overall and conference records to 6-0-0.
The Foresters trailed 2-1 after the opening period, despite
out-shooting the home team 9-8 in the frame. Adrian scored a power
play goal at 5:39 and added an even-strength score at 12:38. Senior
Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) put Lake Forest on
the scoreboard with just one second remaining in the period with
assists credited to classmate Nick Ghidina (Pekin, Ill./Wichita
Falls Wildcats) and freshman Andrew Rocca (Brampton,
Ontario/Villanova Knights). It was Rocca's first career point.
The visitors tied the score on a power play goal by senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) at the 3:36 mark of the
second period. His third score of the season was assisted by
Ghidina and freshman Thomas Bark (Toronto, Ontario/ Streetsville
Derbys). Adrian, however, regained the lead for good on a power
play goal at 8:06 and extended it with scores at 9:24 and 10:41.
Love trimmed the margin to 5-3 at the 12:43 mark. Senior Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars) and freshman Robert Bote (Eching, Germany/Smith Falls Bears) were each credited with an
assist. The Bulldogs, however, got that goal back just 16 seconds
later and, after out-shooting the Foresters 18-9 in the period, led
6-3 at the second intermission.
The home team converted power play opportunities at 4:18 and 6:04
in the third period. Forester freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge,
Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) then scored for the fourth time this
season at 8:48 and Love completed his first career hat trick 23
seconds later. Taylor assisted on Rubino's goal and Pfeffer and
Bote recorded their second helpers of the game on Love's fourth
score of the year. Adrian rattled off goals at 12:31, 14:16, and
14:31 to close out the scoring.
Lake Forest will host a pair of non-conference games against St.
Olaf College next weekend (November 27-28). The teams will face off
at 7:30 Friday night and 2:00 the following afternoon.
