Lake Forest College men's hockey player Mike Rubino
(Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) was named Midwest
Collegiate Hockey Association Freshman of the Week on Monday
(January 11) for his performance in a pair of contests the previous
weekend (January 8-9).
Rubino, a freshman defenseman, scored his first career goal in the
Foresters' 4-1 loss at Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday
night.
Lake Forest traveled to Lawrence University the next day and
defeated the Vikings 6-2. Rubino scored the first goal of the game,
a power play score, early in the second period and assisted on
another goal just a few minutes later. After two more scores by
each team, Rubino put the game out of reach with a shorthanded
empty net goal with 6:32 to play in the contest.
Rubino is tied for second on the team with 10 points this
season.
Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association weekly award winners are
selected by the league's sports information director.
