Milwaukee School of Engineering Completes Series Sweep of Lake Forest

The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 4-2 by visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday (February 13), one night after dropping a 5-4 overtime decision at M.S.O.E. Lake Forest dropped to 7-14-1 overall this season and 7-10-1 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Raiders raised their overall record to 13-8-2 and league mark to 12-5-1.

Milwaukee School of Engineering scored the only goal of the opening period on the power play at 12:23 and out-shot the Foresters 14-8 in the period.

The Foresters evened the score on senior Sean Farley's (Park Ridge, Ill./Utica College) sixth goal of the year two minutes and 15 seconds into the second period. Farley was assisted by senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) and freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers). Lake Forest took the lead when Rubino scored his team-high 11th goal of the year at 11:21. Sophomore Ben Finney (Pontypool, Ontario/Robert Morris University) and Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars) each recorded an assist on the power play goal. The Raiders then converted a power play opportunity of their own at 13:54 and the game was tied 2-2 after two periods.

The visitors regained the lead on a shorthanded goal at the 3:26 mark of the third period and added an insurance score with 6:20 left on the clock.

Shots on goal were even in both the second (12 for each team) and third (13) periods.

Forester freshman goaltender Austin Erney (New Ringgold, Pa./Vermont Academy) finished with 35 saves in his second game of the season.

The Foresters will close out the regular season next weekend (February 19-20) against Concordia University Wisconsin. The teams will face off in Mequon Friday night and Lake Forest on Saturday. Both contests will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday is also the Foresters' Senior Night, Alumni Night, Parents Night, and the annual Peter Taylor Memorial Game and award presentation.
