The Lake Forest College men's hockey team tied host Concordia
University Wisconsin 2-2 Friday night (February 19). The Foresters
are now 7-14-2 overall on the season and 7-10-2 in Midwest
Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Falcons are 0-19-5 overall
and 0-15-4 in the league.
After a scoreless opening period, Lake Forest senior Nick Ghidina
(Pekin, Ill./Wichita Falls Wildcats) put the visitors on the
scoreboard at the 6:27 mark of the second. His second goal of the
season was assisted by freshman Phil Bushbacher (Glenview,
Ill./Aurora Tigers) and junior Anthony Ventura (Pleasant Prairie,
Wis./Lebanon Valley College). The Foresters doubled their lead at
10:51 when senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars)
converted a power play opportunity. He tied for the team lead with
his 11th goal of the year and freshman Thomas Bark (Toronto,
Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) and Mike Rubino (Woodbridge,
Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) were each credited with an
assist.
A 5-on-3 Concordia Wisconsin advantage helped provide the Falcons'
first goal of the game at the 12:04 mark of the third period. The
home team pulled the goalie in the final minute and tied the game
with just 24 seconds remaining in regulation.
Both goaltenders turned away one shot on goal in the 5-minute
overtime period and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Forester freshman goalie Austin Erney (New Ringgold, Pa./Vermont
Academy) stopped 31 of 33 shots on goal in the contest.
The Foresters and Falcons will close out the regular season
tomorrow night at 7:30 in Lake Forest. A live radio broadcast of
Lake Forest's Senior Day contest will be available at
wmxm.org and the annual Peter Taylor
Award presentation will be made between the first two periods. The
Foresters will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering the
following weekend (February 27-28) for a two-game quarterfinal
