Foresters Place Third with Program Record Score at SLIAC Championships

Tuesday was the third and final day of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, where the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed third with the best 54-hole score in program history.

The Foresters had their best round of the event on Tuesday with a 297, which ranks fourth in team history. Their three-day total of 901 was 17 strokes better than the previous record, which was set in 2018 and matched a year later. Lake Forest finished just one shot behind runner-up Spalding University and 26 away from champion Webster University. Knox College placed fourth at 922.

Sophomores Chris Petri and Max Golding were the Foresters' top players on Tuesday and over the course of the tournament. Petri closed with a one-over 73 on the 6,594-yard course at Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Illinois. His three-day total of 221 was also a school record and placed him fifth in the field of 55 golfers. Golding played the final round at even par and his sixth-place score of 224 ranks fourth in team annals. Both players were named First Team All-SLIAC for finishing in the top eight.

Lake Forest also had a pair of Second Team All-SLIAC performers in seniors Jack Dwyer and James Johnson. They finished tied-for-9th overall at 228 and are now three-time All-SLIAC honorees. Dwyer was named to the First Team in 2021 and Johnson last year. Respectively, they rank second and third in program history in career scoring average.

The Foresters will close out the 2022-23 season at Carthage College's Firebird Spring Invite next Sunday.
