Foresters Just Three Shots Back after Day One of SLIAC Championships

The Lake Forest College men's golf team posted a score of 302 on Sunday, good for third place on day one of the 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The event is being played on the 6,594-yard par-72 course at Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Illinois.

Senior James Johnson was the Foresters' top player on Sunday and he is tied-for-fourth in the 55-player field with a 73. He birdied four holes, including three of the course's five par-5s.

Sophomores Max Golding and Chris Petri were next on the team and tied-for-ninth overall with matching rounds of 76. Both players started fast with Golding carding birdies on each of the first three holes and Petri needing just 33 strokes to complete the front nine.

The Foresters' fourth scoring player was senior Jack Dwyer with a 77. He birdied four of the five par-5s in the opening round.

Webster University leads the 11-team field after posting a 299 on Sunday. Lake Forest's 302 is one behind Spalding University and five shots ahead of fourth-place Grinnell College.

Monday's second round will begin at 10:00 a.m.
